Buyer FAQ

Before you ask — answered.

The questions international buyers ask us most, answered plainly. Anything missing? Reach us on WhatsApp and we'll answer directly.

Q‑01 What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)? +

For parboiled and Basmati rice, our standard MOQ is 1 FCL (one full container — approx. 25 MT in a 20ft). For Bengal GI aromatic rices like Gobindobhog and Tulaipanji, we accept smaller lots from 5 MT, with LCL (shared container) shipping available. Makhana MOQ starts at 500 kg. Handicrafts are quoted per order.

Q‑02 What payment terms do you accept? +

We work with the standard instruments of international trade: advance TT (telegraphic transfer, typically 30–50% advance with balance against shipping documents) and irrevocable Letter of Credit (LC) at sight from a recognized bank for larger orders. Exact terms are agreed per order and stated clearly on our Proforma Invoice before you commit anything.

We do not ask buyers to pay any fees, charges, or "release costs" outside the agreed invoice — if anyone claiming to represent us does, please report it to us directly.

Q‑03 Can I get samples before ordering? +

Yes. We courier product samples (typically 500g–1kg for rice and makhana) to serious buyers so you can check grain, aroma, and quality yourself before ordering. Sample product is free; we ask the buyer to cover international courier charges, which is standard practice. Ask for samples in your inquiry and we'll confirm cost and timeline.

Q‑04 Do you allow third-party quality inspection? +

We welcome it. Buyers may appoint SGS, Bureau Veritas, or any recognized inspection agency to inspect the cargo before or during loading, at the buyer's cost. Pre-shipment inspection terms are written into the Proforma Invoice so there's no ambiguity. We consider independent inspection a feature, not a burden — it protects both sides.

Q‑05 Which Incoterms do you quote — FOB, CIF, or CFR? +

All three. FOB Kolkata if you arrange your own freight, CFR if you want us to book the vessel, and CIF if you also want marine insurance included in our price. If you're unsure which suits you, tell us your destination port and we'll quote the option that works best — and explain why.

Q‑06 What is your lead time from order to shipment? +

For standard rice orders, typically 2–3 weeks from order confirmation to vessel loading at the Port of Kolkata — covering sourcing, milling/sortexing, quality checks, packing, and customs clearance. Peak-season demand or custom packing can extend this; we always state a realistic shipment window on the Proforma Invoice rather than promising dates we can't hold.

Q‑07 Which documents do you provide with each shipment? +

The full standard export document set: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Origin, plus — depending on product and destination — Phytosanitary Certificate, Fumigation Certificate, Health Certificate, and inspection reports. Scanned copies are shared as soon as they're issued; originals are couriered or released through the bank per agreed payment terms.

Q‑08 Can you do private label / custom packaging? +

Yes — from printed PP bags in 25/50kg for bulk buyers to consumer retail packs (1–10kg) with your own brand for supermarket and diaspora channels. Private label typically needs a slightly higher MOQ to justify printing runs; share your artwork or requirements in the inquiry and we'll quote accordingly.

Q‑09 What does "GI Registered" mean on your Bengal rices? +

A Geographical Indication (GI) is a legal registration under India's GI Act confirming a product genuinely comes from a specific region and carries qualities unique to it — like Champagne or Darjeeling Tea. Gobindobhog, Tulaipanji, and Kalonunia are GI-registered rices of West Bengal. For buyers, it means documented origin authenticity — a genuine premium differentiator in gourmet and diaspora retail.

Q‑10 How can I verify your company before doing business? +

Please do — we encourage it. Our IEC, APEDA/RCMC, FSSAI, and GST registrations can all be checked on official Government of India portals; our Certifications page links directly to each verification portal. On serious inquiry we share our registration numbers and certificate copies so you can confirm them independently before placing any order.

Q‑11 Are you a manufacturer or a merchant exporter? +

We are a merchant exporter, not a manufacturer — built on 30+ years of family food trade (through Ganapati, est. 1995 — a separate business) in West Bengal. We source against your specification from rice mills we have visited and deal with directly in Bengal's paddy belts, the farmer and trade networks behind our produce lines, and the Bihar makhana supply chain we are actively building — applying our own quality checks and managing the export chain ourselves. This model lets us match the right mill to each order's spec rather than pushing one factory's output.

Q‑12 Which port do you ship from, and which regions do you serve? +

Our home port is the Port of Kolkata (INCCU1), with Haldia available where vessel schedules suit. Because our AD Code is registered on ICEGATE — valid at every Indian customs port — we can also arrange clearance and loading through other major Indian gateways such as Nhava Sheva, Mundra, or Chennai when a buyer's shipping line requires it. Our target markets are the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe/UK, and North America, and we quote for any destination with a workable shipping lane.

Q‑13 Do you provide phytosanitary, fumigation, and Halal certificates? +

Yes. A phytosanitary certificate (from the Plant Quarantine authority) and a fumigation certificate are provided as standard for agricultural consignments, alongside the Certificate of Origin. Halal certification can be arranged on request for markets that require it, and any buyer- or country-specific certificate can be added to the document set — just list your requirements in the RFQ.

Q‑14 Can you supply products that aren't listed on the site — spices or other items? +

Often, yes — through our sourcing network we can supply items beyond our core catalogue on requirement. Our four core lines carry every required export registration today. Spices are available against confirmed requirements, subject to applicable regulatory registrations (Spices Board / CRES, which we do not currently hold) and shipment-specific compliance. If you need something specific, ask — we'll tell you honestly whether and when we can supply it.

Q‑15 Can I combine several products in one container? +

Yes, where volumes and product compatibility allow. A mixed consignment — for example rice plus makhana — lets you trial multiple lines in a single shipment and share freight cost. Tell us the products and quantities you have in mind and we'll confirm what loads cleanly into one container.

Q‑16 How is the product protected during ocean transit? +

Packaging and loading are chosen for the voyage, not just the shelf. Rice ships in food-grade PP, BOPP, or jute sacks; makhana in sealed or vacuum packs to hold its crunch. For longer sea legs we use container lining and desiccants where needed to control condensation, and stuff containers to limit moisture migration. Every lot leaves within its stated moisture spec so it arrives in the condition you signed for.

Q‑17 I'm a first-time buyer — how do I start? +

Send us an RFQ or a WhatsApp message with the product, quantity, and destination port. We aim to reply within one working day with a quotation, arrange a sample if you'd like to check quality first, then issue a Proforma Invoice to confirm the order. No commitment is needed to get a quote — start with a question.

Q‑18 What if the goods don't match the agreed specification on arrival? +

Your protection is built in before the container sails: the agreed specification goes on the contract, every lot is sampled pre-shipment, and you're free to appoint a third-party inspector (SGS, Bureau Veritas, or your own agent) to verify and seal the cargo before loading. We stand behind the lot that was inspected and documented. Independent inspection is the cleanest recourse for both sides — which is exactly why we encourage it.

Q‑19 Are prices negotiable, and why aren't they listed on the site? +

Agricultural prices move constantly with harvest, exchange rates, and freight, so a price printed today would be wrong next week. We quote live against your RFQ so the number reflects real cost at the moment you order — and volume, packaging, and payment terms all affect it. Serious quantities get sharper pricing; tell us what you need and we'll give you a real figure.
